Ehipassiko means “come, see for yourself” in ancient Pali, a language no longer spoken of the Indian sub-continent. Many sacred texts of Buddhism are written in Pali, and it is considered a close relative to Sanskrit. Ehipassiko is a teaching of Buddhism that encourages investigation of the teachings through one’s own experience, not through the reading of scripture, or from a teacher.

Our modern experience is increasingly defined by the bombardment of information and opinion that we are subject to online. It is my hope that singers are reminded to find truth and wisdom through their own compassionate and rigorous investigation of what it means to live a fruitful life in the 21st century. I believe there is more wisdom inside us than we know, if we only take the time to listen.

Come, see for yourself.

Have faith in what your heart has known

You don’t need anything else.

You alone are enough.

Ehipassiko.

Come, see for yourself.

The world will tell you what is true

Decide for yourself.

Have faith in what you know.

Ehipassiko.

Touch, taste, think, feel

Experience the world through your own eyes.

You don’t need anything else.

You alone are enough.

Ehipassiko.
